I thoroughly enjoyed my day at Easterbrook Hall, Dumfries, for the SSDA Annual conference and launch of the responsible tourism strategy for the South of Scotland. Energising presentations and a real buzz of excitement in the room full of around 200 delegates from the sector.

The challenge for me was the wall space! Continuous wood panelling, not a flat wall in sight and no display boards either…

Flexiboards (and Posca pens) offered a great solution and worked really well for the client. They plan to continue to use the panels I created over the coming months, as they take the strategy forward in local and community meetings. The boards I used are A0 size so they can be digitally flatbed scanned.

As each board was finished, I found a way to display it in the room. I had to work at a table (not great for the back and by the end of the day I decided to work on the floor) but delegates were constantly coming to see what I was doing, add things, discuss things and take pictures.

Gowan Millar, from SSDA, explains how the graphic made an impact on the day:

"We really wanted a tangible and immediate medium, a visual record that captured not just the presentations, but also the audience engagement - questions, discussions, and key takeaways. Having the physical boards Helen produced means we can take the spirit and the ethos of our conference to our locally-led destination meetings as we move forward into the delivery phase of our strategy.

"Helen was fantastic, we had an idea of what we wanted but Helen came up with several even better solutions and was able to find ways to capture multi-room discussions."
